Eight days left. Seven more for shopping. I shudder to even think of going out in the crowded stores, where people seem to have forgotten manners. Simple things like, "Please", "Thank you", "Excuse me" are lost in this world of "I want this, and I want it now". Or the screams of children not getting their way, tired of being dragged around by moms and dads who are trying so desperately to out-do everyone they know, racking up credit card bills that will take years to pay off.
Now, having said that.....
One of my favorite memories was from the late 70's, where my older brother and I were able to wander the mall in Spokane by ourselves, given money to shop for our parents, and younger brother. Freedom for Jay and I. My mom's parting words...."Now, Jay, follow your sister, she won't get you lost."...LOL... He had no sense of direction. It was my first sense of empowerment, of responsibility, knowing that "I", the little sister, had power over my big bro....silly of me, but it was great.
As expected, Jay did try to get us lost, at which point, I stopped him, turned a full 180, and walked straight to the car....LOL
Some many memories, so little time.
Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Kwanza and whatever else I have missed. Looking forward to hearing some others.
